The Lost World (1992)

Malone is a junior reporter who is looking for an adventurous assignment.

He is sent to interview Professor Challenger, an explorer and researcher who believes he has found a lost world.

Challenger has a picture of a cliff and a strange beast resembling a pterodactyl that is his only evidence of the place.

The British scientific community initially finds his claims laughable, but after receiving funding from the family of Jenny Nielson, a wildlife photographer and the daughter of a rich American contributor to the sciences, they agree to organise an exploratory expedition under the leadership of the antagonistic Professor Summerlee.

Summerlee agrees to Malone and Nielson coming on the expedition, but refuses to allow Challenger to be part of the expedition.

With obvious reluctance, Challenger gives Summerlee a “map” to be opened at a road-end village in Africa at a particular date and time.

The expedition departs.

A newsboy associate of Malone named Jim stows away on the trip, unbeknownst to anyone.

The 1993 American animated adventure comedy film, We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story, is based on the 1987 Hudson Talbott children’s book of the same name.

The film follows four intelligent anthropomorphized dinosaurs as they journey to the Museum of Natural History.

Captain Neweyes has invented a cereal called Brain Grain that makes prehistoric beings intelligent. They travel to the present day and become intelligent.

They face two major conflicts: an attempt not to be noticed by the public, and to not be exploited by Neweyes’ evil twin brother Professor Screweyes, who wants to use the dinosaurs for his circus business.

The dinosaurs are helped along by two runaway children, Louie and Cecilia.

In addition, they must avoid being seen by the public, who would likely exploit them if they knew about their existence.

Godzilla

A military nuclear test in French Polynesia has exposed an iguana nest to fallout.

In the South Pacific Ocean, a Japanese fishing vessel is suddenly attacked by a giant creature, with only one fisherman surviving. Dr. Niko “Nick” Tatopoulos,

an NRC scientist, is in the Chernobyl exclusion zone researching the effects of radiation on wildlife, but is interrupted by an official from the U.S. State Department.

They ask him to come to New York to help investigate the creature.

A mysterious Frenchman questions the traumatized survivor over what he witnessed, who repeatedly replies “Gojira.” Nick is sent to study a trail of wreckage leading to the recovered Japanese fishing ship with massive claw marks on it.

Nick identifies skin samples he discovered in the shipwreck as belonging to an unknown species. He dismisses the military’s theory of the creature being a living dinosaur, instead deducing it is a mutant created by nuclear testing.

The creature travels to New York City, leaving a path of destruction in its wake.

The city is evacuated before the U.S. military, on Nick’s advice, lure the creature into revealing itself with a large pile of fish.

Their attempt to kill it fails, however, and only causes further damage before it escapes.

Nick collects a blood sample, and by performing a pregnancy test, discovers the creature reproduces asexually and so is collecting food for its offspring.

He also finds out that the creature is attracted to heat, so the military decides to bomb the city in an attempt to kill it.

Nick meets up with his ex-girlfriend, Audrey Timmonds, a young aspiring news reporter.

While she visits him, she uncovers a classified tape in his provisional military tent concerning the monster’s origins and turns it over to the media.

She hopes to have her report put on TV as to launch her career, but her boss, Charles Caiman, uses the tape in his report, declaring it his own discovery, and dubs the creature “Godzilla.”

Yuji Shinoda, the founder of the GPN, discovers the secret to Godzilla’s regenerative properties (named Organizer G1 in the Japanese version, but Regenerator G1 in the North American release), but so has the UFO.

It frees itself from the JSDF’s attempts to contain it, and heads for Shinjuku.

The UFO is revealed to have regenerative properties as well, and it escapes from the JSDF’s grip.

It travels to Shinjuku, where it will likely meet up with Godzilla.

After landing atop Tokyo Opera City Tower, it begins to erase all information about Godzilla from Tokyo’s mainframe computers.

As it alters the oxygen content of the surrounding atmosphere, CCI attempts to destroy the UFO using explosives, but Shinoda, attempting to find out more about the aliens, is nearly caught in the blast.

He survives, and joins the rest of the cast on a nearby rooftop, watching the UFO depart.

Almost in response, the UFO broadcasts its message of invasion and creating a new empire on Earth. Shinoda reveals that the aliens are after the regenerative properties contained inside Godzilla’s DNA so that they may use it to re-form their empire.

John Hammond, an industrialist, has created a theme park of cloned dinosaurs, Jurassic Park, on Isla Nublar, an island off the Costa Rican coast.

After a dinosaur handler is killed by a Velociraptor, the park’s investors, represented by lawyer Donald Gennaro, demand that experts visit the park and certify its safety.

Gennaro invites mathematician and chaos-theorist Ian Malcolm, while Hammond invites paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant and paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler.

Upon arrival, the group is excited to see a live Brachiosaurus.

At the park’s visitor center, the group learns that the cloning was accomplished by extracting dinosaur DNA from mosquitoes preserved in amber and then inserting it into the eggs of modern day chickens.

To prevent breeding, all the dinosaurs were made female by omitting exposure to testosterone during a critical period in embryonic development.

This was done by using DNA from frogs to fill in gaps in the genome of the dinosaurs.

The group visits the raptor enclosure and witnesses the hatching of a baby Velociraptor.

During lunch, the group debates the ethics of cloning and the creation of the park; Malcolm warns about the implications of genetic engineering and scoffs at the park’s conceptualization, saying that it will inevitably break down.

In 1934, Maple White and his assistant Azbek discovered a world populated by dinosaurs on a Mongolian plateau.

Soon after, they were attacked by Eudimorphodons; Azbek was killed and White survived.

White tells George Challenger about his adventures and asks him to come on a further expedition to fully explore the Mongolian plateau.

Challenger organised a lecture in London in order to convince his colleagues Professor Summerlee and Lord Thomas to finance a further expedition with the goal of proving that dinosaurs exist on the plateau.

Lord Thomas granted permission for the expedition on the condition that Summerlee accompanies Challenger.

Oscar Perreault, who is attending the lecture, offers to pay for the expedition’s expenses if the scientists capture a living dinosaur, and sends his associate, John Roxton, to represent his interests. Challenger accepts the proposal.

After four years, a wealthy British family docks their yacht on Isla Sorna and has come ashore unaware of the genetically engineered dinosaurs on the island.

Their daughter wanders off and is attacked by a group of Compsognathus but is saved by her father and yacht crew.

Ailing Dr. John Hammond invites mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm to his residence to discuss the recent incident.

Hammond’s company InGen, which created the dinosaurs, is now in the hands of Hammond’s nephew Peter Ludlow, who used the incident to take control of the company from Hammond.

Ian learns that InGen originally cloned the dinosaurs on Isla Sorna, but the island was abandoned during a hurricane and the animals were released into the wild. Ludlow wants to exploit the island’s creatures to make money for InGen.

Hammond asks Ian to join a team who will document the dinosaurs in their natural habitat, in order to encourage a policy of non-interference.

Ian’s girlfriend, paleontologist Dr. Sarah Harding, was hired and is already on Isla Sorna. Upon hearing this, Ian agrees to go to the island to retrieve Sarah.

Ally is transported back in time to various periods, including the Late Cretaceous, when the Tyrannosaurus and Pteranodon existed. She also meets historical figures in the world of paleontology, including dinosaur painter Charles Knight and Barnum Brown.
